Deputy Director
Berkeley Community Scholars (BCS) is a high-impact nonprofit dedicated to closing the college completion gap for Berkeley youth. We serve graduates of Berkeley public high schools who are low-income, first-generation college-attendees, and members of groups underrepresented in higher education.
Scholars receive up to $16,000 paid directly to them over the course of their undergraduate experience, paired with advising, mentoring, and career readiness programming — at community colleges and four-year institutions across the country.
80% of Berkeley Community Scholars earn their college degree within five years — compared to just 30% nationally for students with similar backgrounds. We’re looking for a Deputy Director to help us reach 85% by 2028, and build an organization that endures.
Position Overview
The Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director and focuses on the following organizational elements:
This position is one which will help the organization have even stronger stability and desired growth potential — and provide options for leadership succession planning. This is an exempt, full time (40 hours per week) position with a comprehensive benefits package. We are open to a 75% or 80% time position as well.
This is a newly created role, built to give BCS the organizational depth it needs to grow with confidence. As Deputy Director, you’ll work as a true partner to the Executive Director with broad ownership across programs, fundraising, finance, and communications.
If you thrive on variety, move fluidly between strategy and execution, and are energized by helping first-generation students reach their full potential — this role was built for you.
